Type VK, VKS, VKO vortex pumps and pumping units

Type VK, VKS, VKO vortex pumps and pumping units.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

APPLICATION

      Vortex pumps are intended for pumping water and neutral, combustible, toxic, highly inflammable and explosive as well as chemically active liquids with temperatures ranging from 233K to 358K (from -40° to +85°C) and with solid inclusions content not exceeding 0,01% by mass and 0,05 mm in size.
      The chief value of the vortex pumps is in their good self-priming ability in case there are air boxes on the pressure line.
      The drawback of the vortex pumps is their low efficiency (18-40 %) and fast wear of their parts when working with liquids that have solid particles in suspension.
      They are used in the water supply systems, chemical and petroleum industries.

DESCRIPTION

      The vortex pumps are characterized by work of the vortex wheel which is a flat disk with short radial rectilinear blades located on the periphery of the wheel. There is a ring cavity in the body into which the blades of the wheel come. An internal sealing flange, tightly abutting on the outside end faces and on the lateral surfaces of the blades, separates the inlet and the pressure tubes connected to the ring cavity.
      When the wheel is spinning, the liquid is propelled by the blades and, simultaneously, whirled under the influence of the centrifugal force. This results in a peculiar double-ring whirling movement, hence the name of the pump. A peculiarity of the wheel function is that each particle, while moving in a helical path, repeatedly gets between the wheel blades where it gains additional energy and, consequently, additional thrust. Due to this, a vortex pump capacity is 2-4 times greater than that of a centrifugal pump with the same wheel diameter and speed, which results in smaller size and weight of vortex pumps as compared to centrifugal ones.
      The VKO-type heating pumps are designed for transferring highly congealing liquids. The pumps are produced with an additional heated lid, which forms a heating chamber. The lid is heated by a steam line with the steam pressure of 5 kg/cm2.
      To ensure their self-priming ability, the pumps are made with bell jars - the VKS design. The bell jar, which is connected to the pressure tube, has an air outlet and due to the ejecting effect ensures the self-priming ability of the pump. With the pump case filled with water, the pump produces self-priming lift of 4m.
      The seal of the pump shafts is a dual soft gasket or a dual end seal (2G).
      Pumps with soft seals are used for pumping water, neutral and chemically active liquids with temperatures in the range of -15°C to 85°C. Pumps with end seals are used to transfer toxic, combustible, highly inflammable and explosive liquids with temperatures in the range of -40°C to 85°C. Such units are completed with electric motors of explosion-proof design.
Depending on the type of the transferred liquid, the pumps are manufactured from the following materials:
design A: cast iron SCh20 - body, lids and pressure unit; steel 20X13L - working wheel;
design B: bronze Br010F1 or Br010Ts2 - parts of the flow-type area;
design K: chrome-nickel steel 12X18N9TL or 10X21N5TL - parts of the flow-type area;
design AB: cast iron - body, lids, pressure unit; bronze - working wheel.
